Nepal-China Frontier Coordination Meeting Concludes in Dhunche
Dhunche (Rasuwa), May 24. A regular border coordination meeting between Nepal and China has concluded at the District Administration Office in Dhunche, Rasuwa. The Nepalese delegation was led by Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, Rajesh Panthi, while the Chinese delegation was led by Chinese official Chu Jinsong.
During the discussion held between officials of the two countries on Saturday, special emphasis was placed on making border security, trade facilitation, mutual coordination, border crime control, and citizen security more effective.
Participating officials stated that the meeting was fruitful in further strengthening the long-standing historical friendship, mutual trust, and cooperation between Nepal and China. Both sides appeared positive regarding facilitating the daily life, trade, and movement of people in the Himalayan region.
The Nepalese side reportedly made a special request to the Chinese officials regarding the safety, medical treatment, and necessary facilitation for Nepalese citizens residing in the Kerung area for work. An understanding was reached to mobilize the security agencies of both countries in a more vigilant and coordinated manner to control illegal trade and criminal activities that could occur through the border area.
In particular, a positive discussion was held regarding allowing Nepalese drivers coming from outside Rasuwa district to travel to Kerung after completing the necessary procedures. The Chinese side's indication that facilitation could gradually be provided to drivers who possess passports and maintain good conduct has brought encouragement to Nepalese drivers and business entrepreneurs.
With signs of flexibility appearing in the previous Chinese provision that prioritized only drivers from the local district, the trade and transport sectors are expected to become more dynamic.
According to the District Administration Office, these meetings are conducted regularly in accordance with a provision to hold alternating meetings between Kerung and Rasuwa to resolve issues appearing in the border area, coordinate security, and continue mutual cooperation between Nepal and China.
Local social worker Milan Tamang commented that the positive atmosphere seen in the border area, growing ease in trading activities, and the friendly relations between the two countries have brought new hope and enthusiasm to the entire northern border region, including Rasuwa.
