Chief Secretary Aryal Advocates for "National Statistics Day" Recognition
Kathmandu: The Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Suman Raj Aryal, has emphasized the need to celebrate Statistics Day formally as National Statistics Day.
Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Thursday to mark Statistics Day 2082, Aryal stated that since statistics are considered official data, the day itself should be observed with official national recognition.
"I urge everyone to celebrate Statistics Day as National Statistics Day," he said. "Please let me know what steps I need to take to make this happen; I am ready to do my part. We refer to statistics as official data, so let us move toward celebrating it as an official national day."
Furthermore, Aryal maintained that statistics are not merely a technical subject but a vital component of overall governance and its systems. He noted that the perception of statistics as strictly technical must change.
Chief Secretary Aryal also expressed that the statistical system needs to be modernized to fit the 21st century. "It is not just a technical matter; it is an aspect of governance. We cannot settle for a purely technical narrative; that mindset needs a shift. We want a statistical system suited for the 21st century. Only then can all our objectives be addressed," he added.
He also pointed out that as a new generation views the census through different lenses, it has become a modern necessity to integrate data collection and analysis with technology.
