National Democracy Day Observed Across the Country

Kathmandu. Today, Falgun 7, National Democracy Day is being celebrated across the country with various programs. This day is observed in memory of the historic occasion when the autocratic Rana regime was abolished through the 2007 BS people's revolution and democracy was established.

Tributes are being paid nationwide today while remembering the contributions of martyrs Dashrath Chand, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Gangalal Shrestha, and Shukraraj Shastri, who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of democracy.

With the establishment of democracy, Nepali citizens have been practicing their rights through the current federal democratic republican system. Historians state that the people's revolution of 2007 BS prepared a strong foundation for institutionalizing democratic values, principles, and practices constitutionally.

This year's main ceremony is being organized with a special program at Sainik Manch, Tundikhel in Kathmandu. The main celebration committee, formed under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sushila Karki, includes government ministers, mayors of the Kathmandu Valley, the Chief Secretary, the Chief of Army Staff, and heads of security agencies as members, while the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs serves as the member-secretary.

The government has declared a public holiday across the country on the occasion of Democracy Day. The President, Prime Minister, and leaders of various political parties have expressed their best wishes to the citizens while remembering the martyrs who contributed to the establishment of democracy.
