National Assembly's 19th Session Begins Today in Kathmandu
KATHMANDU – The 19th session of the National Assembly is starting today. Since the Parliament Building at the International Convention Center in New Baneshwor was destroyed by fire during the Gen Z protests, the Federal Parliament Secretariat has prepared to conduct the session at Singha Durbar. The meeting is scheduled to sit at 11:00 AM today.
Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal had already called a meeting of the Business Management Advisory Committee on Friday to prepare for the session. In the first meeting of the session, the agenda includes Chairman Dahal reading out the letter from the President summoning the session and presenting a condolence motion for the recently deceased Nepali Congress lawmaker Baldev Bohara.
According to Ekram Giri, spokesperson for the Federal Parliament Secretariat, all preparations for the session have been completed. President Ramchandra Paudel, in accordance with Article 93, Clause (1) of the Constitution of Nepal and upon the recommendation of the Government of Nepal's Council of Ministers on Poush 28, had summoned the National Assembly session for today, Sunday, Magh 4, at 11:00 AM. The 18th session of the National Assembly had ended on Bhadra 31.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has also prepared for elections for 19 members of the National Assembly on Magh 11. The Commission stated that one member has already been elected unopposed to the National Assembly.
This session is being viewed with significance as preparations for the House of Representatives elections are moving forward and new members are set to be elected to the National Assembly.
