National Assembly Election Underway in Nepal

Kathmandu, January 25. The Election Commission has announced that all preparations are complete for the National Assembly elections taking place today from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM to fill 18 seats that will become vacant from March 4, 2026.

According to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, out of the total 18 seats, one candidate from the Khas-Arya category in Koshi Province has been elected unopposed, and elections for the remaining 17 seats are being held today.

Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress has already been elected unopposed from the Khas-Arya category in Koshi Province. Polling stations and centers have been designated in all seven provinces for the voting of the remaining 17 seats.

The designated polling centers are the Provincial Election Office premises in Biratnagar, Morang for Koshi Province; the Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Mithila Culture Center in Janakpurdham, Dhanusha for Madhesh Province; and Bhutan Devi Secondary School in Hetauda, Makwanpur for Bagmati Province.

Similarly, spokesperson Bhattarai informed that voting is scheduled to take place at the Provincial Election Office premises in Pokhara, Kaski for Gandaki Province; the Staff Welfare Center in Ghorahi, Dang for Lumbini Province; the Provincial Election Office premises in Birendranagar, Surkhet for Karnali Province; and the Provincial Election Office premises in Dhangadhi, Kailali for Sudurpashchim Province.

The electoral college for the National Assembly member election consists of provincial assembly members, mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities, and chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities.
