Government’s Goal is to Bring ‘Singha Durbar’ to Every Village – Minister Nyaupane

Kathmandu – Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Bhagwati Nyaupane, stated that the government aims to bring ‘Singha Durbar’ to every village.
Speaking at the launch of the book ‘Gaun Gaun ma Singa Darbar’, edited by Apsara Gautam, in Kathmandu on Friday, she said that the government is moving forward while addressing the challenges observed during the implementation phase of federalism. She emphasized the need to make local governments even stronger and more effective.
She stressed that the local levels should be empowered by fully implementing the rights mentioned in the Constitution and granted by the Local Government Operation Act. Highlighting the achievement of creating a three-tier government as a result of the movement, she said that local governments are close to the people and essentially their own governments.
She pointed out that the Constitution provides local governments with both exclusive and shared powers and that disagreements over these powers should be resolved through discussion. Since local governments have the authority to make laws and budgets independently, they are becoming increasingly strong.
Nyaupane also claimed that significant progress has been made in physical infrastructure, education, health, and drinking water sectors since the promulgation of the Constitution. She added that the transfer of authority from the federal and provincial governments is necessary to further strengthen local governments.
Appreciating the book, she said that its title alone makes the objective clear.
