Minister Sinha Stresses Green Economy Through Renewable Energy and Efficiency
Kathmandu: Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Anil Kumar Sinha, has stated that promoting a green economy through the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency is a necessity of the present day.
Speaking at a national conference on Nepal’s green economy development through the implementation of clean energy, organized on the occasion of International Clean Energy Day, Minister Sinha emphasized the need to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by expanding access to modern energy while ensuring the proper utilization, saving, and conservation of energy sources.
He said, "It is essential for all of us today to ensure the concept of sustainable energy, promotion of a green economy through mitigation and adaptation of environmental impacts from greenhouse gas emissions, energy mix, and energy security by increasing access to modern energy while ensuring proper use, saving, and conservation of energy through renewable energy development and energy efficiency to achieve Sustainable Development Goals."
He stated that it is necessary to promote a green economy through the development of renewable energy, enhancement of energy efficiency, and mitigation and adaptation of environmental impacts caused by greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, he mentioned that ensuring energy mix and energy security is a shared responsibility for everyone.
Minister Sinha noted that Nepal is a member state of the International Renewable Energy Agency and the International Solar Alliance, and emphasized that Nepal is committed to fulfilling international commitments as a party to the Paris Agreement on climate change.
He stated that Nepal has placed high priority on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean energy transformation in policies and plans such as the Sustainable Development Goals–2030 Action Plan, the Third Nationally Determined Contribution, the 16th Plan, the Action Plan for Increasing Electricity Consumption and Fuel Reduction–2080, and the Energy Development Roadmap and Action Plan–2081.
He added, "Nepal is a member of the International Renewable Energy Agency and the International Solar Alliance, and a party to the Paris Agreement on climate change. Nepal has given high priority to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean energy transformation in its international commitments and national goals related to energy and climate change, including the Sustainable Development Goals–2030 Action Plan, the Third Nationally Determined Contribution, the 16th Plan, the 2080 Action Plan for Increasing Electricity Consumption and Fuel Reduction, and the 2081 Energy Development Roadmap and Action Plan."
