Minister Ghising on 'Gen Z Movement' and Development Leadership

Kathmandu. Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, has stated that while past political party leaders succeeded in political leadership, they failed in development leadership.

Addressing the Nepal Youth Entrepreneurship Summit – 2082 jointly organized by the National Youth Council and Nepal Business Institute on Wednesday, he said that the Gen Z movement was born because the leaders who succeeded in changing the politics and system failed in development leadership.

He said, "We must do the work of creating hope that something is happening. We also need to guarantee good governance. The most important thing is that we must hold elections. This Gen Z movement did not happen just like that. It was an explosion of long-standing frustration and anger. If we look for why it was born, we saw many changes in the country's politics and system. 

However, the leadership repeatedly failed to lead the development agenda that followed. Past political leaders were very successful politically, but they could not become successful leaders in the context of development."

Similarly, Minister Ghising recalled that he has been fulfilling the role of a minister amid a great challenge. He shared that he agreed to take the responsibility of the minister because he felt it was necessary to take the lead during the country's delicate situation and bring the country to a 'safe landing'.

"I have come after fulfilling the role of a minister amidst a great challenge. I also felt the situation where one could not back down even when asked to take responsibility. 

I took the responsibility of a minister in this government because I felt it was necessary to take the leadership during a delicate situation in the country and bring the country to a safe landing, and provide a solution."

Stating that old acts and laws cannot fulfill the public desire for prosperity, Minister Ghising suggested that the government that comes after the election should change such acts, laws, and policies. 

He claimed that the election would be held on time, as all political parties have registered with the Election Commission to participate in the election.
