Mahesh Basnet Alleges Lack of Transparency Among Newly Appointed Ministers
September 15, 2025) – CPN UML leader Mahesh Basnet has accused the newly appointed ministers of failing to ensure transparency and accountability.
In a Facebook post, Basnet congratulated the ministers on their appointment but emphasized the need for scrutiny of their backgrounds and family assets.
Basnet specifically highlighted former Finance Secretary Rameshwar Khanal, praising his public commitment to “not taking ministerial quarters, car, or salary,” while questioning whether the minister has sufficient personal wealth and is ready to ensure transparency regarding his family’s assets.
Similarly, he urged former Managing Director of the Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, to clarify questions raised over contracts and procurement processes.
Basnet also criticized senior advocate Om Prakash Aryal for his past statements regarding cow slaughter, saying such remarks could affect religious sensitivity and pluralism in Nepal, and stressed the need to examine his background and ideology carefully.
Basnet concluded that the government and new leadership must demonstrate true reform against corruption and nepotism by starting transparency and accountability from within.
