"No one will show up for questioning; if force is used, there will be retaliation: Mahesh Basnet"
KATHMANDU – Newly elected Secretary of the CPN (UML), Mahesh Basnet, has expressed opposition to the term extension of the committee formed to investigate the 'Gen Z' movement.
Commenting on the one-month extension of the committee's tenure, Basnet claimed it is merely a ploy to increase the salaries and allowances of the commission's officials and asserted that it would yield no concrete results. He stated bluntly, "That just increased the commission's salary and allowances; they won't be able to achieve anything else."
Regarding rumors that leaders might be summoned for questioning during the investigation, Secretary Basnet insisted that no leader would go to give a statement. Challenging the committee's process, he stated that no one would appear simply because they were summoned.
In the same vein, he issued a stern warning to the government, declaring that if force is used against anyone in the name of the investigation, hundreds of thousands of UML and Congress workers would storm into Singha Durbar to retaliate.
