Hearing Today in Corruption Case Against Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal

The hearing in the corruption case against former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is scheduled for today. The hearing for the leader, who is also the co-coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, is set to take place in the Special Court before the bench of Justices Narayan Prasad Paudel and Dilliratna Shrestha.

His case has been placed at number 3 on the docket. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in Tangal had filed a corruption case against Nepal, including 93 individuals, on  Jestha 22 in the Patanjali land misappropriation case. 

Nepal is accused of allowing the purchase and sale of excess ceiling-exempted land located in Sanga, Kavre, through a cabinet meeting led by him.On Magh 18, 2066, the Council of Ministers approved Patanjali to purchase 815 ropanis of land with an exemption from the land ceiling. 

Furthermore, on Chaitra 6, 2066, the Cabinet decided that Patanjali could sell the land it had acquired under the ceiling exemption.The CIAA initiated an investigation on suspicion of corruption after the government decided to grant permission for the land sale. 

The Special Court ordered his release on a bail amount of 3.5 million rupees on Asar 11. The CIAA had claimed a principal amount of 18 crore 58 lakh 50 thousand rupees against Nepal.
