Lawsuit Filed Against Durga Prasai: Five-Year Prison Sentence and Fine Sought

A lawsuit has been filed in the Kathmandu District Court against medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai for offenses under the Electronic Transactions Act. The District Attorney's Office has requested a punishment of up to five years in prison, a fine of 100,000 rupees, or both, in accordance with Section 47 (1) of the Act.

The charge sheet claims that since he has repeatedly committed such offenses, additional punishment and a compensation fee for the victim relief fund should also be recovered. It is mentioned in the indictment that Prasai gave misleading and provocative statements through social media against the election held on March 5, 2026.

Police investigation shows that he posted videos that spread animosity, such as claiming the country would split if elections were held, and violated the election code of conduct.

Legal action has been initiated against him on charges of attempting to create unrest by using violent words and declaring that elections will not be allowed to take place until the monarchy and a Hindu state are restored.
