Landless Squatters Announce 5-Hour Shutdown of East-West Highway
The All Nepal Landless Squatters Association has announced a 5-hour shutdown of the East-West Highway tomorrow, Baisakh 31, to advocate for the rights and justice of landless squatters across the country.
Holding a press conference at Samwad Dabali in the capital on Wednesday, the association informed that the highway will be blocked from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The association stated that this step had to be taken to protest against the "dozer terror" and forced evictions taking place in squatter settlements.
During the program, Nahendra Khadka, a leader of the landless squatters affiliated with the Nepali Communist Party, appealed to all parties for support, stating that this is a common struggle for rights.
He remarked that the highway strike is necessary to send a message of unity, noting that government suppression has caused significant loss of life and property.
