JSP Will Not Back Down From Its Stand to Withdraw Land Bill: Purna Basnet

Kathmandu — Purna Basnet, Head of the Publicity Department of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has made it clear that the party will not back down from its stance demanding the withdrawal of the bill that seeks to amend certain Nepal Acts related to land.

According to him, the bill was introduced with the intention of desertifying the Tarai–Madhes region and is against the interests of the country and the people, which is why the JSP is continuously protesting against it.

Basnet said, “The party is committed to preventing encroachment of forest land, conserving biodiversity and the environment, and protecting water, forests, and land. But the current land bill contradicts all of these goals, therefore it must be withdrawn.”

He also warned the government not to think about passing the bill without properly addressing the questions raised by the party. “If the government shows an autocratic attitude and attempts to pass the bill, JSP will strongly resist,” Basnet stated.

JSP has been carrying out nationwide protests against the land bill. Basnet also appealed to the general public to actively participate in the demonstrations organized by the party.
