K.P. Sharma Oli Accuses Sushila Karki-Led Government of Being Unconstitutional and Regressive

Kathmandu. CPN (UML) Chairman K.P. Sharma Oli has accused the current government led by Sushila Karki of being unconstitutional and regressive.

Speaking at an intellectual interaction program with the party chairman on contemporary national issues, organized in Kathmandu on Friday, Oli criticized the current government, stating that it has reached a position not permitted by the constitution.

He said, "An unconstitutional government; a Chief Justice cannot become the Prime Minister in a place that no constitution allows. A former Chief Justice is not allowed to take up any job except in the Human Rights Commission. But this government, which knowingly violated the constitution to become the Prime Minister, is clearly regressive."

Oli also mocked the government, saying it was formed "on the basis of hype/nonsense" (Hahako Bharma). He remarked, "They say it reached power through Discord! Does any civilized society in the world elect a Prime Minister through Discord? They say 2-3 thousand kids gathered on Discord and voted! Who counted that? What kind of ballot paper was it? Did they put a checkmark or punch a hole like in America? This government is formed on such nonsense."

Criticism of Internal Dissidents
Oli also took a jab at the dissenting tendencies within his party. He stated that leaving the institution, leaving the party, and criticizing the leader are actions taken by reactionaries.

He said, "Leaving the institution, leaving the party, criticizing the leader—reactionaries criticize their own party and leave. They shouldn't be so sentimental. But some people are seen doing this. Even aluminum doesn't heat up and cool down this quickly. We shouldn't be like this thin aluminum that heats up and cools down so fast. We were born with a great purpose. Our movement, our party, was born with a great movement."

Oli reiterated the need for discipline and patience within the organization, calling the UML a party born from a great movement. Furthermore, he stated that since the CPN (UML) has been at the forefront of all movements, it does not know how to be disappointed.

"The CPN (UML) is at the forefront of all these movements. The CPN (UML) does not know how to be disappointed. It does not know how to be disheartened. It understands social science. It understands how society moves forward. Society does not go backward," Oli concluded.
