Koshi UML Demands Action Against Perpetrators of Attack on Dhakal and Basnet

Biratnagar. The Koshi Provincial Committee of the Nepal Communist Party (UML) has issued a strong statement expressing deep objection to the attempted attack on Standing Committee member Bhanubhakta Dhakal and Politburo member and youth leader Mahesh Basnet.

The party has described such activities as an open assault on democratic values, human rights, and constitutional dignity.

On Sunday, while the leaders were traveling from Kathmandu via Biratnagar Airport to a youth awareness program in Itahari, some youths in Biratnagar allegedly engaged in abusive behavior, threw red ink, attempted to obstruct the road, and chanted slogans.

The statement, signed by Koshi Province Chairman Ghanshyam Khatiwada, notes that similar incidents have started recurring, even after a program attended by UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel in Simara, Bara.

The statement further alleges that the government has not paid necessary attention to curb such anarchic activities.

"The tendency to incite political violence is increasing as the state mechanism has failed to provide necessary control and discouragement," the statement reads.

The UML has made it clear that activities that obstruct free movement, peaceful assembly, and citizen safety cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

The party has demanded that the government take strict legal action against the individuals involved.
