Nepali Congress Leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala Proposes 15th General Convention by Mid-January 2026

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has proposed that the party must hold its 15th General Convention by the end of Poush 2082 BS (mid-January 2026) and then prepare for the elections.

Speaking at an informal discussion with available District Presidents and former District Presidents in Kathmandu on Friday, he expressed the view that the General Convention should be completed before the next general election to ensure the party goes into the polls under a new and fresh leadership.

"I have been saying for a long time that the Nepali Congress's 15th General Convention must be completed by the end of Manshir 2082 BS (mid-December 2025). Now, due to the pressure of time and the situation, if it cannot be done by the end of Manshir 2082, it must be completed by the end of Poush 2082 BS (mid-January 2026) at any cost," he said.

He emphasized that any schedule prepared for the General Convention by the end of Poush 2082 must not clash with the election schedule published by the Election Commission.

"The Congress must now move forward in a united, serious, responsible, and restrained manner, and everyone associated with the party must prioritize the nation, the people, and democracy.

The party has endured many ups and downs in the past, so in the coming days, we must unite with the spirit that unity is strength, and no one should adopt a stubborn attitude of 'My word is the final word,'" Dr. Koirala stated.

Dr. Koirala also mentioned his desire for unity and reconciliation within the party and called for an end to factions, sub-factions, and splits. He stressed that honest, devoted, and continuously active cadres across the country are saving the party, and since everyone is awaiting the Congress's decision, the party must make a new decision immediately.
