Minister Kharel Visits Jyapu Community Senior Citizens’ Home

Lalitpur — Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, visited the Senior Citizens’ Home of the Jyapu Community in Bagdol, Lalitpur, and interacted with the senior citizens.

Invited by the Jyapu community leaders, Minister Kharel visited Bagdol on Tuesday afternoon to observe the Senior Citizens’ Home and engage with the residents.

During his visit, Minister Kharel appreciated the work the Jyapu community has done in serving senior citizens.

He stated, “While the government should be responsible for providing basic necessities like food, shelter, and clothing, due to weak management, it has been unable to do so effectively. The work being carried out by the Jyapu community is highly commendable for society, and the government will provide support and coordination to ensure its continuity.”

He emphasized that over time, everyone—from children to senior citizens—should play a role, and the government should act positively in its responsibility to ensure everyone’s happiness.

“We will provide support, focusing on promoting the heritage, culture, and civility of the Newar community. To publicize the overall culture and traditions of the Newar community, we are preparing to run a program called ‘Sampada Yatra’ on Nepal Television,” he added.

Minister Kharel also urged the Jyapu Community to prepare at least a ten-year plan for the management and operation of the Senior Citizens’ Home.

Jyapu Community Chairman Santman Maharjan informed that the Senior Citizens’ Home currently serves 25 people, and they plan to gradually increase this number in the future.
