Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah Accused of Pressuring Prime Minister Sushila Karki
CPN (UML) leader Mahesh Basnet has claimed in a social media post that Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah met with Prime Minister Sushila Karki twice and created intense pressure on the government.
In his Facebook post, Basnet mentioned that Balen Shah demanded the arrest of then CPN (UML) leaders Oli and Lekhak, the detention of Durga Prasai, and the removal of Home Minister Aryal.
Basnet stated that if this news is true, a person holding the responsibility of a local body engaging in such politics of pressure and intimidation against the Prime Minister raises questions about constitutional propriety.
He warned that Mayor Shah's move would severely damage his political image, saying, "If Balen takes the risk of becoming an instrument in a foreign-designed game, he is making the mistake of entering the role of 'Lucifer,' and that could ultimately be the beginning of his own downfall."
However, there has been no official reaction from Mayor Balen Shah or the Prime Minister's Office regarding this matter.
