Kaski Congress Demands Special General Convention

Pokhara — The Nepali Congress Kaski chapter has demanded that the party hold a special general convention. According to party joint secretary and spokesperson Nabin Sigdel, the decision was made during a meeting held on Sunday, which also conducted a serious review of the country’s current situation.

The meeting decided that the party should immediately renew active memberships and convene a special general convention within the month of Mangsir. If that does not happen, representatives from the 14th General Convention will be asked to push for the special convention, spokesperson Sigdel informed.

The meeting strongly condemned the attack, vandalism, and arson targeting party president and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and central committee member and former Foreign Minister Arzu Deuba Rana.

Chaired by Kaski acting president Ram Babu Bhandari, the meeting also denounced the destruction of public and private property across the country, stating that violent activities such as vandalism and arson have gone beyond the spirit and norms of peaceful democratic protest.

The meeting further condemned the vandalism and arson of statues, including the bust of BP Koirala at the district party office in Chipledhunga, the bust of martyr Hari Prasad Gurung at Harichowk, as well as statues of other martyrs.

A decision was made to appeal for support from party members to rebuild the party office and reinstall the statues of BP Koirala and martyr Hari Prasad Gurung. District working committee member Engineer Sagar Mohan Bhattarai was assigned the responsibility of presenting an assessment of the damages and the cost of reconstruction.

The meeting also called on all subordinate committees—constituency, provincial assembly, local municipalities, and ward committees within Kaski—to hold immediate meetings to activate party members.

The meeting was attended by district committee officials and members, along with presidents of constituency, provincial assembly, and local committees.
