Government's Irresponsibility and Failure Evident in Karnali Crash: MP Shahi

Gyanendra Shahi, a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), has fiercely criticized the government, stating that the rescue operations following the bus accident in Karnali were ineffective.

Speaking at Monday's House of Representatives meeting, MP Shahi remarked that rather than just a tragic accident in Karnali, he saw the government’s utter irresponsibility and failure.

He pointed out that when the bus plunged into the Karnali River on July 2 (Asar 18), passengers were trapped in the middle of the river, crying out for their lives, yet timely rescue operations failed to materialize.

"Today, I didn't just see an accident in Karnali; I saw the irresponsibility and failure of this government. The vehicle plunged into the river, and people were stranded in the middle of the water, begging to be saved. One individual was clinging to a cliff, fighting for survival. But their lives came to an end because rescue never arrived," Shahi said.

Shahi claimed that although a helicopter was spotted in the sky during the accident, it was not deployed for the rescue operation but was instead carrying a minister.

He further noted that the rescue teams lacked the necessary equipment and slammed the government's severe failure in being unable to dispatch even a single helicopter from Surkhet to the crash site.

"I made an immediate phone call. The rescue team did not have the required equipment. The government didn't even have the capacity to send a single helicopter from Surkhet to the incident site. Who exactly is this government working for?" he questioned.

MP Shahi also accused the state of discriminating against the citizens of Karnali, reminding the house that Karnali is an integral part of Nepal.
