Harka Sampang Demands Action and Compensation Over Kailali Tempo Incident
Kathmandu. Harka Sampang Rai, chairman of the Shram Sanskriti Party, has expressed serious objection to the incident in Kailali where a tempo was pushed off a cliff, demanding government action against the culprits and compensation for the victim.
Speaking at Monday's House of Representatives meeting, he drew attention to a video circulating on social media, stating that they were deeply saddened by the footage showing a poor tempo driver's vehicle being rolled down a cliff in the presence of forest police.
He urged the Home Minister to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident, take legal action against those involved, and provide appropriate compensation to the victim driver. During his speech, Sampang also mentioned another scene showing stones being thrown onto a house roof, expressing concern over the recent behavior of the police.
He stated that while citizens should feel a sense of safety and protection upon seeing the police, certain incidents have instead created an atmosphere of fear and terror.
He said, "A video was seen where a poor and helpless driver's tempo was rolled down a cliff in the presence of forest police. We are deeply saddened by that sight. I want to draw the Home Minister's attention to this. The culprits must be punished, and compensation should be arranged.
Along with that, stones were also seen being thrown at a house roof. It is surprising to see the police becoming so unruly these days. The moment people see the police, they should feel peace and security. The environment of fearing and being terrified of the police must be corrected immediately."
On June 12, a video was made public showing officials from the Division Forest Office, Kailali, pushing a woman's tempo off a cliff in Godawari Municipality Ward No. 4 during an encroachment clearance drive.
