JSP Nepal Demands Constituency Redefinition Based on Equal Population
The Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal has demanded that parliamentary/provincial constituencies be redefined to ensure representation is based on an equal population base.
Stating that representation based on population is the fundamental basis of democracy, Purna Basnet, the Chief of the Publicity Department, informed that the party's stance is to establish separate reserved parliamentary/provincial constituencies for Dalits and women to ensure equitable representation and guarantee social justice for them.
"JSP Nepal has proposed that the National Assembly should be transformed into a House of Nationalities, with proportional inclusion based on the population of the provinces."
Basnet further stated that JSP Nepal demands the implementation of a fully proportional electoral system, the establishment of a directly elected executive presidential system by the people, and a parliament with proportional and inclusive representation.
Similarly, the party has emphasized the need to ensure equitable representation for the Himalayan region, which is geographically extremely remote.
JSP Nepal has also stated that local levels should be placed under provincial jurisdiction and that the local level elections should be conducted on a non-party basis.
