Former Oli-Led Government Responsible for Visa Probitions of Nepalis: JSP Nepal

The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal has concluded that the cancellation of working, tourist, and visit visas for Nepalis by some foreign countries providing employment opportunities was due to the negligence and actions of the then government led by KP Sharma Oli.

This conclusion was reached during the party’s Central Executive Committee meeting, according to the party’s publicity department chief, Purna Basnet.

JSP Nepal stated, “Had the government, army, police, and administration acted responsibly, the country could have been saved from enormous loss of life and property.

But why was no effort made to prevent it? This remains mysterious. Several countries that were providing employment to Nepalis have canceled working, tourist, and visit visas. The Oli-led government bears full responsibility for this situation.”

According to Basnet, the party’s assessment shows that during the protests of Bhadra 23 and 24, 2082 (September 8 and 9), anti-democratic, anti-republican, anti-federal, regressive, anarchic, and conspiratorial elements infiltrated the movement, attacking political party offices, the President’s Office, Singha Durbar, the Parliament building, judiciary, executive offices, hotels, industries, commercial complexes, prisons (releasing inmates), security posts, and both public and private properties. These criminal acts, including vandalism, arson, and looting, caused irreparable damage to the nation.

Basnet further stated that the Oli-led government had banned around 26 international media outlets and social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).

This decision, he said, led to widespread outrage among the Nepali public, especially the youth. On September 8, the Zen Z youth generation rose in rebellion against the Oli-led government, demanding good governance, equality, justice, and an end to corruption.

Instead of addressing their legitimate demands, the government, intoxicated by power, adopted repressive policies, spread state terror, and brutally suppressed the protesting youth, according to the party’s conclusion.

The party has demanded that the government investigate those responsible for causing harm to the country, take legal action against the culprits, and provide compensation to the victims.
