Separate Reserved Electoral Constituencies Needed for Women and Dalit Communities: JSP Nepal

Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal has demanded the establishment of separate reserved electoral constituencies for women and Dalit communities.

Purna Basnet, head of the party’s publicity department, stated that ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives elections in Falgun, constituencies should be redrawn based on equal population representation in line with global democratic values and principles, and provisions should be made for separate reserved constituencies for women and Dalit communities.

Basnet said, “For marginalized communities who have been economically, socially, and politically excluded—such as Madhesi, indigenous nationalities, Tharu, Dalits, backward classes, women, Muslims, and other minority groups—equal access to resources, proportional representation in power, and assurance of social justice must be guaranteed.”

He further emphasized that the current government should safeguard achievements such as federalism, democracy, republic, inclusivity, civil liberties, fundamental rights, and social justice, while upholding the principles of the constitution, constitutional supremacy, and rule of law.

Keeping in mind the aspirations of the Nepali people and the younger generation, the government must eliminate issues like anarchy, corruption, poverty, unemployment, disorder, and misgovernance, and ensure good governance. According to the party, the elections for members of the House of Representatives must be held on the scheduled date of Falgun 21, 2082 BS.
