Candidate Nominations for House of Representatives Election Begin Today

Kathmandu. Nominations for candidates for the House of Representatives election, scheduled for March 5, are being registered across the country today. According to the schedule set by the Election Commission, the nomination process has started at the respective Election Officer's offices.

To file a candidacy under the first-past-the-post system, a copy of the citizenship certificate or voter ID card and proof of inclusion in the final voter list of the respective constituency are mandatory. Candidates must submit their nomination papers along with the details of one proposer and one seconder.

Individuals currently holding positions in the Government of Nepal, provincial governments, local levels, or government-owned or subsidized institutions must submit proof of resignation before filing their candidacy. 

For those running on behalf of a party, the Commission stated that an official nomination letter provided by the central executive committee of the respective party is also required.

Candidates must submit a receipt showing they have deposited a 10,000 rupee bail amount, while a 50 percent discount on this bail is provided for women, Dalits, minorities, and economically disadvantaged candidates. In the case of economic disadvantage, a recommendation letter from the local level is mandatory.

Additionally, candidates must submit a self-declaration form, a personal details form, property details, and necessary proof regarding the settlement of advances and arrears.

With the registration of nominations, political party activities have intensified across the country, and election-related bustle has increased around election offices.
