Election Code Tames Public Holi Festivities in Eastern Nepal (Photos)
Biratnagar. The Holi festival is being celebrated with great enthusiasm in the eastern Terai region today. However, since elections are approaching this year, the usual outside noise, crowding, and public gatherings are not as visible as in the past.
In various locations across Sunsari and Morang, local residents are limiting themselves to their homes, celebrating Holi by sharing goodwill with family and relatives.
Particularly in the urban and rural settlements of Sunsari and Morang districts, the usual hustle and bustle of youth rallies, DJ music, and public programs is missing this time. Instead, they were found singing and dancing at home.
The celebration has been confined indoors after the administration called for avoiding crowds in consideration of the election code of conduct.
Children, youth, and senior citizens alike are celebrating the festival by applying colors (abir), sharing sweets, and exchanging mutual well-wishes.
Photo and video footage captured by Nepal News Bank in various locations of Koshi Province also show a glimpse of a disciplined yet joyful Holi. Although the crowds of the past are not seen on the streets and at intersections, there is no shortage of color and laughter in the courtyards of homes.
