Supreme Court Reinstates Former NEA Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya
The Supreme Court has reinstated Hitendra Dev Shakya, the former Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), to his previous position.
The joint bench of Justices Nakul Subedi and Shri Kanta Paudel issued the order on Monday, concluding that Shakya was removed from his post in a 'prejudiced and vindictive' manner and without following the necessary procedures.
Following the Supreme Court's order, Shakya told Nepal News Bank in a telephonic conversation, "I had been wandering in search of justice for a long time. Now, the Supreme Court has given me justice.
After the Supreme Court's decision, I will responsibly take charge of the leadership of the Authority again." Shakya stated that he felt the truth was finally established, even though the judicial process took time.
The Supreme Court's decision is considered a major blow to Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, as the Council of Ministers had removed Shakya from the post and appointed Manoj Silwal as the Executive Director on Ashoj 5 based on Ghising's recommendation.
Speaking about his professional role, Shakya said, "I had done exemplary work as part of a team around 2073, 74, 75 BS. Today also, I am committed to working with the same team spirit to achieve what the country needs."
With Shakya regaining the leadership of the NEA, it is anticipated that there will be a new turn in the balance of power and policy decisions within the Authority.
