Heavy Rain and Landslides Disrupt Various Highways and Road Sections Across the Country

Persistent rainfall followed by floods, landslides, and muddy road conditions has disrupted major highways and road sections in various districts across the country. The Nepal Police has completely halted vehicular movement on some road sections, while introducing nighttime travel bans in other areas.

Due to the potential risk of flooding, a complete ban on all vehicle operations during the night has been enforced on the BP Highway, which connects Kavrepalanchowk and Sindhuli via the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi route. According to the police, all vehicular movement is restricted from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM. Traffic will remain operational from 4:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and this arrangement will remain in effect until further notice.

Similarly, as the road has become hazardous due to the rain, all types of vehicles have been barred from operating on the Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM. The police stated that this decision will also remain effective until further notice.

Meanwhile, vehicular movement has been completely blocked on the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 after the road section turned extremely muddy due to the rainfall. However, police noted that alternative routes can be used in that area.

Further disruptions have been reported in Western and Central Nepal. The Saljhandi–Dhorpatan road section has been completely blocked after boulders fell from above at Dhungrekhoa in Panini Rural Municipality-2, Arghakhanchi, and efforts are currently underway to clear the debris. The Araniko Highway is also completely blocked due to a landslide at the Jiro Kilo area in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4, Sindhupalchok. The highway faces a similar obstruction caused by a landslide containing rocks, mud, and sludge in the Kodari area of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2. Additionally, the Kaligandaki Corridor road section has been completely blocked following a landslide with boulders and mud at Belbagar in Jaimini Municipality-8, Baglung.

Police Advisory: As the risk of landslides, floods, and road blockages remains high during the monsoon season, the police have urged everyone to check the road conditions with relevant authorities before traveling and to exercise necessary caution.
