Gyanendra Shahi : Release Maitighar Activists and Implement Core Demands

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader and Member of Parliament Gyanendra Shahi has issued a strong ultimatum to the government, demanding the immediate release of activists arrested from Maitighar Mandala.

In a statement posted on social media, Shahi asserted that the activists' demands are "not for merely changing the date of an election... but for building this nation." He stressed that the sacrifice of 76 young lives and the injuries sustained by over 500 people were not for a mere change in power, but for fundamental systemic change.

Shahi outlined five key demands that he insists the government must meet, arguing that the activists fought and became martyrs for these goals:

Directly Elected Executive Prime Minister.

Abolition of the Provincial Structure.

Halt to Political Appointments in Constitutional Bodies.

Maximum Punishment and Confiscation of All Property for the Corrupt.

Establishing National Unity under the Nepali Flag.

The RPP leader warned of a renewed nationwide movement if the government fails to address these demands. "If the government does not meet these demands, there will be a countrywide movement again.

Neither this government nor this system will be able to sustain it," Shahi wrote. He concluded with a stern caution: "Change is inevitable now. Treachery in the name of compromise will not be tolerated."
