Gyanendra Shahi Accuses Finance Minister of Lying to Parliamentary Committee

Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Member of Parliament Gyanendra Shahi has accused the Finance Minister of lying to a parliamentary committee regarding a customs tax evasion case.

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, he alleged that the Finance Minister had lied to the parliamentary committee about the customs tax evasion issue and demanded an immediate investigation.

He said, "We wore green ribbons in support of good governance, launched a movement, and also demanded an investigation committee. But this seat of power is amazing; when you move from this side to that side, you seem to forget everything.

The Finance Minister has gone to the parliamentary committee and lied about the matter of customs tax evasion. The committee was not demanded out of mere whim. Nor is it to prevent the Finance Minister from doing his job."

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has been accused of repeatedly tweaking tax rates and leaking information immediately after releasing the economic bill alongside the budget.

In this regard, Finance Minister Wagle, while attending a meeting of the Finance Committee on Wednesday, had claimed that he did not alter the appropriation bill.
