Gen Z Activists Detained During Anti-Government Protest in Kathmandu
Kathmandu: The Gen Z group, led by Miraj Dhungana, started a protest at Maitighar in Kathmandu on Monday. They are demanding the resignations of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal to put pressure on the interim government.
During the protest, police detained several Gen Z members who were chanting slogans. The group leader, Dhungana, was also taken into custody. Dhungana stated that holding elections under the current conditions would only lead to unstable results. He argued that the government should not see simply conducting an election as a major success.
Furthermore, he expressed that there is no point in holding elections without solving the country's problems and meeting the demands of the Gen Z generation. Dr. Nicholas Bhusal's group also joined the protest. Police detained Bhusal and several others during the demonstration.
The protesters are demanding the formation of an all-party government before any elections are held. Their main slogan is: "Gen Z does not want elections; we want good governance."
