Government Demolishes Permanent Houses in Kathmandu's Gairigaon Slum
The government has used bulldozers to demolish permanent houses in the Gairigaon slum area of Tinkune, Kathmandu. Last Saturday afternoon, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City deployed bulldozers to tear down huts in the Gairigaon settlement but left the permanent houses intact.
On Monday, those remaining permanent structures were also demolished using bulldozers. On Saturday, the city had also deployed bulldozers at the Thapathali slum area and cleared another settlement in Manohara.
