Gagan Thapa's Candidacy Controversy: Kathmandu or Sarlahi?
Has Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa, who has repeatedly contested and won elections from Kathmandu 4, become afraid of the RSP (Rastriya Swatantra Party) in Kathmandu? Is Gagan's preparations to run from districts like Rolpa and Sarlahi due to local residents being upset with him in his current constituency?
The name of Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has been recommended from Sarlahi Constituency 4 for the House of Representatives election to be held on coming Falgun 21. This recommendation was made even though Gagan has declared that he will not contest the election from Sarlahi.
The meeting of Constituency No. 4 recommended the names of party General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa and current Provincial Assembly member Birendra Prasad Singh for the direct candidacy in the House of Representatives.
Just four days ago, General Secretary Thapa had told journalists in the district headquarters, Malangwa, that he would contest the election from Kathmandu itself.
Despite Thapa saying so, his name being recommended from here, and his continuous visits to Constituency No. 4 under various pretexts to meet leaders and activists, have led to speculations that he might come to Sarlahi to contest the election.
