Miraj Dhungana to Lead Fuel Price Protest Rally in Chitwan This Sunday
A unique protest will be held in Chitwan this Sunday to voice opposition against the massive price hikes in petroleum products and the heavy taxes imposed by the government.
Led by Gen Z activists Miraj Dhungana and Bishu Lama Gurung from the 'Gari Khana Deu' (Let Us Earn a Living) campaign, the protest rally is scheduled to take place at 4:30 PM, moving from Chaubiskothi to Lions Chowk.
To draw the government's attention, protestors will walk and push their motorcycles by hand instead of riding them. While the price of petrol has currently reached 217 rupees per liter, the government alone collects nearly 70 rupees of that amount in taxes.
The demonstration is being organized to pressure the government to remove six categories of unnecessary taxes, including pollution, infrastructure development, and green taxes, during this time of economic crisis.
