Free Water Connection and Concession on Deposit Fees in Birgunj: Easier Access to Safe Drinking Water for All

Birgunj (Parsa) – In a major step toward resolving the growing drinking water crisis in the Terai-Madhesh region, Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) and Birgunj Metropolitan City have signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand water services in the area.

The MoU was signed in the special presence of Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav. On behalf of the NWSC, General Manager Arjun Babu Dhakal, and from Birgunj Metropolitan City, Chief Administrative Officer Arvind Lal Karna signed the agreement.

According to the agreement, the process for new water line installations will now be simplified, and citizens will be provided free water connections. In addition, concessions on deposit charges for new connections will be granted to ease financial burdens.

Minister Yadav announced that necessary human resources will be added to the NWSC Birgunj branch, which will contribute to resolving the ongoing water issues in the region. “This MoU is expected to bring a significant improvement in the living standards of Birgunj residents,” he added.

The Ministry of Water Supply, its departments, and the NWSC have been actively working day and night to find both immediate and long-term solutions to the worsening water supply problems in Birgunj and across Terai-Madhesh.

The signing event was attended by Birgunj Mayor Rajeshman Singh, Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply Engineer Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya, Director General of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management Engineer Ram Kumar Shrestha, NWSC Chairman Dr. Dhundiraj Bhattarai, Head of Federal Water Supply and Sewerage Parsa Bipul Das, NWSC Parsa Chief Prabin Sah, NWSC Bara Chief Sanjeev Yadav, Chief Administrative Officer of Birgunj Arvind Lal Karna, board members of NWSC, and other officials.

This MoU is seen as a concrete step toward ensuring sustainable and accessible water services for the people of Birgunj and surrounding districts.
