Federal Democratic Front Condemns Crackdown on Gen-Z Protest
Kathmandu — The Federal Democratic Front has strongly condemned the government’s repressive measures against the Gen-Z youth movement, which had launched protests against Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s administration demanding good governance, anti-corruption measures, and justice.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Front accused the government of spreading state terror instead of addressing the youths’ legitimate demands. The crackdown, it said, resulted in the killing of dozens of youths and left thousands injured. The Front denounced these violent actions, offered heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The Front emphasized that, amid the current crisis, peace, security, social harmony, tolerance, and rule of law must be maintained. Declaring that the Oli-led government has already “collapsed,” the Front called for the formation of a new government that respects popular sovereignty, fundamental rights, civil liberties, federalism, democracy, republicanism, and social justice.
Although expressing dissatisfaction with the constitution, the Front stressed that all solutions should still be sought within the framework of the parliament and the constitution. It warned against unconstitutional moves, extremist ideologies, and regressive conspiracies, reaffirming that any action against the sovereignty and state power vested in the people, as guaranteed by the constitution, would not be acceptable.
