Home Minister Emphasizes Fair Elections and Power Transfer
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has stated that the current government's primary task is to conduct free, fair, and impartial elections within the scheduled timeframe and hand over responsibility to an elected government.
Speaking at the opening session of the 'Koshi Province-Level Security Seminar' organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs in Biratnagar on Wednesday, he explained that the government's purpose is not to simply count the days in power but to ensure the successful completion of the election process.
He described elections as an essential practice of democracy that grants legitimacy to the government by bringing the power of the citizens into the state system.
The Minister warned that maintaining good governance is difficult without elections and that the country could face further instability without them.
He stressed that periodic elections are the foundation of good governance and that a government with a fresh mandate can work more effectively to establish order.
Minister Aryal further clarified that this civilian government was formed with the main mandate of transferring power to an elected body.
He noted that the government is moving forward with the goal of ensuring peace and security while conducting the polls in a clean and honest environment on the set date.
He also highlighted that provincial governments play an equally important role in maintaining law and order and creating a suitable environment for the upcoming elections.
