Call to Permanently End Elephant Polo and Football Games
Chitwan, Sauraha – On the occasion of World Elephant Day, the Regional Hotel Association Nepal–Sauraha has emphasized the need to permanently end elephant polo and football games in which elephants are forced to participate.
Animal rights organization PETA, citing repeated investigations, has confirmed that elephants are subjected to inhumane treatment such as being beaten, poked, and kicked, and has urged the immediate cessation of such degrading activities.
According to the association, these games are tarnishing the tourism reputation not only of Sauraha but of the entire country, causing tourists to choose alternative destinations. Tourism leaders in Chitwan have also stressed the need to seize this opportunity to take necessary steps to restore the region’s lost reputation.
