Lawmaker Arjun Kumar Karki Advocates for Prioritizing Economic Diplomacy

Kathmandu: CPN-UML lawmaker Arjun Kumar Karki has stated that Nepal's foreign policy must give special priority to economic diplomacy. Speaking at today's House of Representatives meeting, he emphasized that the state must be serious about mobilizing international cooperation for national development agendas linked to Nepal's sovereignty, independence, and self-respect.

He said, "We are in a position where our country's foreign policy must specifically prioritize economic diplomacy. Beyond any strategic issues in our foreign policy and programs, we must be able to focus with special importance on mobilizing international assistance for national development agendas related to our sovereignty, independence, and self-respect."

Reminding that Nepal is still on the list of Least Developed Countries, he noted that economic diplomacy will play a crucial role in graduating to the status of a developing nation. Lawmaker Karki shared the view that foreign relations should be advanced by linking them with economic interests to attract foreign aid, investment, and development partnerships from friendly nations and the international community.

According to him, if the state can effectively implement economic diplomacy, it will have a positive impact on the country's economic and social development. He also mentioned that it would help achieve the goals of poverty alleviation, expansion of development infrastructure, and elevating Nepal to the category of a developing nation.

He said, "If the state can advance foreign affairs with special importance in the field of economic diplomacy, it will not only benefit the country's socio-economic landscape but also play a significant role in obtaining foreign aid from friendly nations, alleviating poverty, and upgrading the country from the developed nation category to a developing one."
