76 names removed from the proportional representation closed list
Kathmandu, February 3. The Election Commission has announced that 76 names have been removed from the closed list of candidates under the proportional representation system for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.
According to a statement issued today by spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the decision to remove these 76 names was made following an investigation by the Commission into the closed lists submitted by various political parties.
He stated that the candidates' details were verified based on complaints received by the Office of the Proportional Election Officer, legal provisions regarding candidate eligibility and disqualification, various decisions made by the Election Commission, and information provided by the political parties themselves.
The statement mentions that the removed candidates include one from the Nepali Congress, one from the Nepal Communist Party (UML), and three from the Nepali Communist Party.
According to spokesperson Bhattarai, those removed include 21 individuals on the Credit Information Bureau's blacklist, 25 whose names are still on the closed list for the provincial assembly proportional elections, 10 who failed to pay fines imposed by the Election Commission, four who did not meet the minimum age requirement, one whose name was not on the voter list, and two whose names were not included in the voter list for backward regions.
Additionally, one name was removed because a male candidate was submitted for a position reserved for a woman. Furthermore, 10 names were removed from the closed list at the request of the respective political parties, and two individuals were removed for meeting more than one of the aforementioned criteria.
