Durga Prasai Released: Calls for the King to Take to the Streets, Challenges State Bodies
Durga Prasai was released from custody today. Speaking with media personnel immediately after his release, he expressed intense anger toward the current political system and the electoral process.
Prasai questioned why he was detained for opposing the elections, stating, "The King also said the elections should not happen; when I said the elections won't happen, you took me and locked me up. Do you have the guts to imprison the King, Sushila Karki? Do you have the guts, Om Prakash Aryal? Does the Kathmandu CDO have the guts? And does the Election Commissioner have the guts?"
He further maintained that the former King must now become active, saying, "One thing is that the King must also show courage now; I have heard that the King will also be coming out onto the streets."
Prasai claimed that while it might be different if foreign armies stopped the King, otherwise, the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and the Nepali people would escort him into the palace and offer him a "royal salute."
