Division within Congress reaches the districts: Thani exits the electoral race

The aftershocks of the power struggle and the division brought about by the Nepali Congress special convention have begun to reach the district level. Influential Congress leader and former minister Hridayram Thani has announced that he will not be a candidate in the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

After the special convention brought in new leadership (the Gagan Thapa faction) and two clear lines emerged within the party, Thani withdrew from the electoral race, citing "health" reasons.

Issuing a press release on Thursday, Thani clarified that although the party had already recommended him from Surkhet constituency number 2, he would not be a candidate.
