Dr. Shekhar Koirala Claims Sher Bahadur Deuba-Led Central Committee as Official Nepali Congress

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has claimed that the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led central working committee is the official Nepali Congress.

Leaders, including Dr. Koirala, approached the Election Commission to assert the party’s official status along with acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka. He emphasized that the central working committee alone should determine the entire schedule for the special convention.

He said, “Forty percent of convention delegates have the right to call a special convention. But the agenda, schedule, and procedures must all be prepared by the central working committee, as clearly stated in the constitution.

The entire central working committee of Nepali Congress is present at the Election Commission. A few may have stepped aside. According to the constitution, no office bearer has the right to call a special convention. Neither any individual nor any office bearer has that authority according to the Nepali Congress constitution.”

Dr. Koirala clarified that under the Nepali Congress constitution, no official or individual has the authority to unilaterally call a special convention. He also claimed that many of the signatures collected for the special convention had been withdrawn, and that they have brought evidence of these withdrawals.

He added, “We are concerned with the institution, not the individual. We have proof that the signatures were withdrawn.”

Similarly, acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka stated that no one, including the central president or any office bearer, has the authority to call a special convention except the central working committee.

He said, “Apart from the central working committee, neither the central president nor the acting president, nor any office bearer, nor any individual, has the authority to call a special convention.”
