Congress Chief Deuba Ready to Let Others Sign Election Tickets to Maintain Party Unity: Spokesperson Mahat

Kathmandu – Nepali Congress spokesperson Prakashsharan Mahat stated that party president Sher Bahadur Deuba is willing to let other leaders sign election tickets in his place in order to maintain party unity.

Speaking after attending the Central Working Committee meeting at the party’s central office on Wednesday, Mahat mentioned that the Central Committee had approved sending the signatures to the Election Commission with everyone’s consent.

He added that if it is felt that someone else should sign instead of the president and there are no issues with the Election Commission, the party is ready to let any leader provide the signature.

He said, “In discussions, the party president emphasized that the most important thing right now is party unity. The party should not split, and he is ready to do whatever is necessary to maintain this unity. Regarding the signatures, if giving someone else’s ticket signature ensures unity, he is ready for that.”

Mahat further noted that the signatures approved by the Central Committee had already been sent to the Election Commission for proportional and National Assembly lists, and the remaining direct election tickets can be signed by other leaders if needed without causing problems at the Election Commission.

He also clarified that Congress General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwprakash Sharma did not request President Deuba to refrain from contesting the elections.
