Nepali Congress MP Rai Urges Government to Repatriate Bodies of Two Nepalis from Croatia
Kathmandu. Nepali Congress Member of Parliament Nishkal Rai has drawn the government's attention to the fact that the bodies of two Nepalis who lost their lives in a road accident in Croatia have not been brought back to Nepal even after 23 days.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, MP Rai informed that Umesh Kumar Phago, a resident of Sandakpur Rural Municipality-1 in Ilam, and Dev Gurung from Nuwakot passed away in a road accident in Croatia on May 6.
He mentioned that despite a long time having passed since the incident, the bodies could not be brought to Nepal, commenting on this as an example of diplomatic failure. According to Rai, the issue is being handled by the Nepali Embassy in Australia.
He said, "On May 6, Umesh Kumar Phago, a resident of Sandakpur Rural Municipality-1, Ilam, and Dev Gurung of Nuwakot district met with a tragic demise in a road accident in Croatia. Ironically, even after 23 days of the incident, the bodies have not been brought to Nepal. The reason for this appears to be our diplomatic failure."
He stated that despite the victim's families completing all the necessary paperwork, there are complaints that the embassy has not provided the required facilitation.
He said, "This matter is reportedly being looked after by the embassy in Australia. According to the information provided by the grieving families, even though all necessary paperwork to bring the bodies to Nepal has been completed from this side, the embassy has not provided the required facilitation. Therefore, rather than adding more pain to the victims, the government should immediately arrange to bring the bodies back home by providing the necessary facilitation."
MP Rai demanded that the government make immediate arrangements to bring the bodies back home through necessary coordination and facilitation, instead of adding further grief to the victim's families.
