CPN-UML to Use Electronic Voting Machines for Leadership Selection
Kathmandu, 4 December: The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) is set to use electronic voting machines for the leadership selection during its upcoming 11th National General Convention.
CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali stated that EVMs will be used this time as well to make the leadership selection process faster and more streamlined. The UML had also used EVMs in its 10th National General Convention held in Chitwan previously.
"We have decided to use electronic voting machines for the selection of leadership," he said. "The tender has been invited. It will soon be decided which company will be awarded the contract."
The General Convention this time will elect a 251-member Central Committee, including 15 office-bearers, for the UML. The amendment proposal to the statute, passed by the second statute convention held last Bhadra, had reduced the number of Central Committee members. Approximately 2,200 delegates are expected to participate in the UML General Convention.
The UML General Convention is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from Mangsir 27 to 29. The closed session of the General Convention will be held at Bhrikutimandap.
