Controversy Erupts as Ministerial Appointment, Nominated as 'Protest Representative,' is Suddenly Withdrawn
KATHMANDU: A significant political row has flared up in Nepal following the swift withdrawal of a ministerial nominee whose name had been publicly recommended as a representative of the recent anti-government movements.
The sudden reversal has cast serious doubt on the state of political consensus and the stability of the current coalition government.
CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel immediately seized upon the incident, taking to social media (Facebook) to directly question the Prime Minister and publicly express concern over the underlying message of the event.
In his Facebook post, General Secretary Pokharel wrote: "What does the immediate withdrawal of the name of the person recommended for Minister as a representative of the protesters indicate, Prime Minister?"
