Shekhar Koirala Emphasizes the Urgency of Congress Unity
Kathmandu: Senior Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has stated that party unity is a necessity today. He also clarified that he has no personal ambition to become party president or prime minister.
In a video message regarding the party’s general convention and the upcoming elections, Koirala made it clear that he harbors no personal aspirations. He emphasized that he will continue to raise his voice peacefully in support of the overall unity of the Congress.
He asserted that he has never been attracted by the desire to become a minister or general secretary in the past, nor will he be tempted by the prospect of becoming party president or prime minister, explaining that the values instilled by his family have shaped his life philosophy.
Motivated by his family’s philosophy, he stated that he is committed to promoting party unity and does not wish to move forward in the Congress transformation campaign with anger or impatience.
Koirala mentioned that while campaigning for the party’s special general convention, he submitted his vote in written form to the central working committee but remained cautious to ensure no message of party division was conveyed.
Understanding the sacrifices and humiliation that come with party transitions, he pledged to advance the party’s emotional unity until the very end.
Expressing concern over the country being on the threshold of elections and the constitution being in a fragile state, he noted that an unelected government replaced a government elected through people’s movements, creating a constitutional vacuum, and stressed that everyone must unite to protect democracy.
He expressed confidence that the delegates coming to Kathmandu, as custodians of the party’s heritage, will fulfill their historic responsibilities by establishing the relevance of law and policy.
Koirala recalled that BP Koirala’s policy of reconciliation was guided not by legal texts or statutes, but by the voice of the inner conscience.
He stressed that the upcoming general convention should unify consensus, cooperation, and coexistence, blowing the bugle for the overall unity of the Congress.
