“Congress should go to the elections alone in the upcoming polls: Dr. Shekhar Koirala”
Senior leader of the Nepali Congress, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, has said that the Central Committee should call for a special general convention based on consensus.
He said, “Right now, candidates for the National Assembly and the proportional representation of the House of Representatives must be finalized.
For this reason, it would be appropriate to talk with those who support the special general convention and call it after Magh 6. By then, all nomination processes for the National Assembly and House of Representatives will be finished. Calling it at that time will also send a message of unity.”
On Tuesday, he held a discussion with a group of more than 30 central members at his private office. During the meeting, Dr. Koirala said he is working to ensure the Central Committee calls the special general convention in a way that addresses everyone's feelings and is acceptable to all.
In a different context, he said that the Nepali Congress should not form an alliance for the House of Representatives elections.
He stated that while an alliance might win a few more seats in direct elections, it would decrease proportional votes and cause long-term harm to the Congress. He made it clear that the Congress must contest the upcoming elections alone.
